Eyebrow Hair Transplant San Jose

Safe, Effective & Minimally Invasive, Same Day Procedure

An eyebrow transplant is a delicate hair restoration procedure requiring the highest degree of artistry. Our skilled specialist performs eyebrow hair transplant which is a delicate procedure that will thicken and enhance the appearance of eyebrow.

Causes of Eyebrow Hair Loss

Eyebrow hair loss can occur due to a variety of reasons. Certain diseases like low thyroid condition can pre-dispose individuals to eyebrow hair loss.

Another situation that may benefit from eyebrow transplantation is over-plucking or over-tweezing of the eyebrow area, which can result in a partial or total absence of eyebrow hair. Additionally, trauma or accidents can cause eyebrow hair loss, and surgically -related eyebrow hair loss can result from skin cancer operations or other surgery in this area.

Some individuals are simply born with thin eyebrows and are interested in undergoing an eyebrow hair transplant because they desire thicker eyebrows to more dramatically frame their eyes and to make their face and eyes appear more attractive.

The cause of eyebrow/eyelash loss is evaluated in medical history and examination prior to consideration of hair transplant:

Eyebrow loss can be from a variety of factors such as tattoos, repeated plucking, burns, and genetic disease which cause the eyebrows to thin or disappear. Eyebrow hair transplant can be a permanent solution to this problem. Unlike tattoos, which make the eyebrows look unnatural and there is no occurrence of hair growth; eyebrow transplantation would give more hair to the brows.

The new hair will continue to grow over the period of time, creating a fuller and natural look. Periodic trimming of the hair is required to maintain a natural shape.

Eyebrow Transplant Technique

An eyebrow transplant is a delicate hair restoration procedure requiring the highest degree of artistry. Our skilled specialist performs eyebrow hair transplant which is a delicate procedure that will thicken and enhance the appearance of eyebrow.

The unique flat hair angle, natural curl, and flare-to-fishbone design pattern of the eye brow are all integral to the creation of an attractive and full eyebrow contour that is the ultimate goal of an eyebrow hair transplant.

During eyebrow transplant surgery, a patient’s finest hairs are individually extracted from the back of the head. Grafts typically include only single hairs, although for individuals with truly fine hair, two-hair grafts are occasionally used for transplantation at the inner club portion of the eyebrow.

Each hair graft is carefully prepared and is then placed with precision in the areas of hair loss in the eyebrow region. It is extremely important that the angles of each eyebrow hair be placed correctly in order to ensure a natural result. Eyebrow hair angles must be very flat along the skin, have a radiating club shape toward the nose, and a “fish-tail” appearance (i.e., cross-hatching) as the end is approached.

As the transplanted hairs grow in their new position they may require occasional trimming as well as “training” with gel or wax.

Eyebrow Transplant Recovery

It generally takes less than 24 hours to recover from eyebrow transplant surgery. By the day after your surgery, you should be able to resume most daily activities, although it is recommended that you hold off on strenuous activities for about a week to prevent any accidental injury and reduce the risk of bleeding.

You can return to work on the day following surgery, although many people choose to take a few days off following the procedure. You will have tiny scabs at the implantation sites and may experience some minor swelling in the area.

Eyebrow Transplant Results

No matter what the cause of eyebrow hair loss may be, the most effective solution to restore eyebrows to a desired state is surgical hair transplant. Transplanted eyebrow hairs initially grow at the rate of the donor scalp hair, but over time (especially after the first year or two) growth can begin to slow down to a more natural rate of eyebrow hair growth.

This change in hair growth is due to the influence of the skin in the eyebrow region and the impact it has on the growth of the transplanted hairs, a condition known as recipient dominance.

Eyebrow Anatomy and Physiology

The direction of eyebrow hair changes dramatically in different parts of the brow. In the region of the eyebrow nearest the nose, the hair points upward. The hair across the top of the eyebrow points outward and downward. The hair in the lower part of the brow grows outward and upward. This crisscross growth pattern causes the hairs in the middle of the eyebrows to converge and form a subtle natural elevation running horizontally through the middle of each eyebrow.

The second distinctive characteristic of eyebrow hair is that the hairs emerge from the follicle at a very acute angle so that the hair grows flat to the skin’s surface. This is in contrast to scalp hair where the angle between the hair and scalp can be 45 degrees.

The third important feature of the eyebrows is that the hairs grow as individual strands, rather than in the 1- to 4-hair follicular unit grouping that are characteristic of scalp hair.

The fourth distinctive element of eyebrow hair is that the hair growth cycle is very short. This means that eyebrow hair will grow (in anagen) only for about 4 months before it enters the resting (telogen) phase and falls out. In contrast, scalp hair has a growth phase that can last 3 to 7 years, enabling the scalp hair to grow much longer.

Frequentely Asked Questions

  • What causes eyebrow and/or eyelash loss in men and women?

Physical trauma, e.g., accident, thermal, chemical or electrical burns.
*Systemic or local disease that causes loss of eyebrow and/or eyelashes
*Congenital inability to grow eyebrows and/or eyelashes
*Plucking (to reshape the eyebrow) that results in permanent loss of eyebrows.
*Self-inflicted obsessive plucking or eyebrows and/or eyelashes (trichotillomania).
*Medical or surgical treatments that result in eyebrow or eyelash loss—e.g., radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgical removal of tumor.

  • Is eyebrow restoration procedure safe?

Yes, it is a minimally invasive micro surgical procedure. Usually 1 session is all that is required.

  • Where does the donor hair come from? How is the procedure done?

The donor hair is extracted one follicle at a time from either your scalp or your leg. The donor is usually taken from a site that furnishes finer rather than coarser hair; finer hair is a better “match” for eyebrow hair. Donor hair is transplanted micro surgically 1 or 2 hairs at a time. Each graft is placed into an incision prepared for it. The use of single hairs or micrografts permits meticulous adherence to the eyebrow contour for a natural appearance.

  • Is the result natural?

Yes, they are your own naturally growing hair. In many cases, they are more beautifully shaped and contoured than what you were born with. See photos below.

  • Are the new hairs permanent? Post operative maintenance ?

Yes in most cases. Sometimes a small maintenance session may be required after a few years but that is rare. For some individuals, occasional trimming as well as “contouring” of the transplanted eyebrows may be required until the grafts start to form their own curves.

  • Any complications?

Post operative complications are often limited to minor itching, pain and possibly swelling in some patients. Patients should avoid scratching the recipient site as this may dislocate or dislodge the grafts.

* All patients are actual patients of our practice who have provided consent to display online. Readers should understand that results do vary and not all individuals achieve the results depicted here.
